Fillers – Before & Aftercare Instructions

Preparation for your Facial Injections
  • To help minimize post injection bruising, we recommend taking Arnica Montana Topical. You can go to any health food store and purchase Arnica Montana Topical. Follow the directions listed on the packaging.
  • It is suggested to be off blood thinning medications 2 weeks prior to fillers. If you’re on a prescribed blood thinner, please contact your prescribing physician before coming of medications, e.g.: Plavix, Coumadin, Warfarin, Heparin or Xarelto. You will need to hold your blood thinning medications per your prescribing physician prior to injections.
  • Do not take any aspirin, NSAIDs (e.g.: Ibuprofen, Aleve) for 2 weeks prior to injections (this includes Meloxicam/Mobic). Please inform us prior to your appointment if you are on blood thinning medications. These products can facilitate additional bruising. You may take Tylenol (acetaminophen) if needed for pain.
  • Do not take Vitamin E or any herbal supplements such as Garlic, Ginger, Gingko Biloba, Fish Oil, Glucosamine, or St John’s Wort for 2 weeks prior to injection as these may facilitate additional bruising as well.
  • Add Spinach to Salads!
  • Please be at the office 10 minutes prior to your appointment time.
  • Please do not wear any makeup to our office on the day of your injections. If you do, please inform our front staff so that you may wash it off before you are called back for your appointment.
  • If you are getting lip fillers, please advise staff prior to your appointment so that we can call in a prescription for antibiotics and Valtrex to begin before your scheduling procedure.
After-Care Information:

You may ice area intermittently if there is significant bruising. However, be careful with extended use of ice because it can damage tissue.

Avoid any facial treatments involving chemicals for at least 1 week after injections of any kind.

Avoid laser treatments at lease 30 days post treatment.

If you are experiencing excessive swelling, you may try herbal supplements of Arnica to help. Pineapple also has a chemical, Bromelein, that may help decrease swelling.

Expectations:

The area of injection will be red. Swelling a bruising are also to be expected but this will diminish over the first few days.

Allow up to 6 weeks for any “lumpiness” in lips to subside after augmentation.

Dermal fillers onset of results are immediate, but may improve within the first few days once swelling has subsided.

Depending on the type of filler, the duration of results may vary from 6-24 months.

Possible Side Effects:

Localized pain, bruising, tenderness, and/or itchiness.

Pressure sensation above upper lid/lower face or headaches.

Nodules (balling up of product) or uneven distribution.
